Shree Indilayappan Temple
Vrishika Chirappu – Nov 17 to Dec 28, 2025
Lord Shankaranarayanan, the divine unity of Lord Shiva (Shankara) and Lord Vishnu (Narayanan), represents the eternal harmony between creation, preservation, and transformation. Described in sacred texts like the Skanda Purana and Vishnu Purana, this form appeared to reveal that both deities are manifestations of the same Supreme Consciousness. The left side radiates the ascetic power of Shiva, while the right embodies the sustaining grace of Vishnu — together symbolizing perfect cosmic balance. Worship of Shankaranarayanan brings peace, wisdom, and unity, reminding devotees that Shiva and Vishnu are one — the eternal truth beyond all difference.
Nestled at Ayathil, Kollam, the temple stands gracefully on about 3.5 acres of pristine, serene land. The Indilayappan Kavu is not a man-made creation but a naturally preserved forest that has stood for centuries. Its origins trace back beyond written history, making it one of the oldest living sacred groves in the heart of the Kollam Corporation and serves as a vital reservoir of fresh air and natural energy. Within its sacred boundaries thrive rare trees and countless medicinal plants, many of which are found only in protected forests. Playing a vital role in maintaining the region’s ecological balance, this holy grove is preserved under the Kerala Government’s Sacred Grove Conservation Program. Here, both Lord Indilayappan and Naga Raja are worshipped with equal reverence and importance.
